Dr. Kun Zhang

Co-Founder of Singlera Genomics Inc.

Dr. Kun Zhang is an Associate Professor of Bioengineering at the University of California at San Diego. After obtaining his Ph.D. in Human and Molecular Genetics from the University of Texas at Houston/MD Anderson Cancer Center, he received his post-doctoral training with George Church at Harvard Medical School. He joined the faculty of UCSD Department of Bioengineering in 2007. His current group is developing genome technologies based on single-molecule sequencing, single-cell manipulation/amplification, and chip-based synthesis and manipulation of complex DNA libraries. They are applying these novel technologies to the analyses of stem cells and human brain. Dr. Zhang is leading one of the three single cell genomics centers on the mapping of human brain gene activities under the NIH Roadmap program. He also co-founded Singlera Genomics Inc. focusing on sequencing-based genetic diagnostics.

Dr. Yuanyuan Zhou

Co-Founder of Pattern Insight and Whova

Dr. Zhou (周源源)is a Qualcomm Chair Professor in Mobile Computing at University of California, San Diego (UCSD) since 2009.  Prior to UCSD, she was a tenured professor at University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Her area of expertise include data centers, computer systems, data analytics and mobile systems.  She has so far graduated 18 Ph.D students, most of whom are now  either successful entrepreneurs or tenured/tenure-track professors at top universities including University of Chicago, University of Toronto, University of Waterloo, Ohio State University, etc.   In parallel to her academic career, she has also co-founded three companies, with the first two successfully exited to public companies.  As the President in her second startup, Pattern Insight, she led the company to become profitable since 2010 and was acquired by VmWare in July 2012, providing good returns for investors and shareholders.  Currently she is busy with her third startup, Whova. It has gained substantial customer traction worldwide and has successfully raised substantial investment a few months ago.  She obtained her BS in computer science from Peking University,  and her MS and Ph.D from Princeton University. She is an ACM Fellow and IEEE Fellow, Sloan Research Fellow (2007) and the winner of ACM Mark Weiser award (2015).

Dr. Yutao He

Sr. Technologist at NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory

President/co-founder of LEAP Career Development Forum

Dr. He is currently a Senior Technologist at NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) leading research in advanced spacecraft avionics technology for current and future NASA space exploration missions. He has been serving as reviewers for numerous professional journals and conferences and as organizers of technical conferences, and on the review boards of NASA AIST and SBIR proposals in the area of avionics and information technology. He is an adjunct faculty member at UCLA and CSU-LA, and an Executive-in-Residence of College of ECST at CSU-LA. Dr. He is the President/co-founder of LEAP Career Development Forum, a Los Angeles-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to career advancement and professional growth of young Asian Americans. Dr. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.

Mr. George Chu

Founder and Chief Budsiness and Management Consultant for Wall Street Business Consulting Company, President of Chinese Entrepreneur Association

Mr. Chu received his MS degree in Food Chemistry; He also received his EMBA from Chicago Lake Forest Management Graduate School. He has been worked in US for 30 years and held various senior management positions for different companies. In 1992, he was appointed by The Coca Cola Company for the GM of the Concentrate Plant in Shanghai, China. Later, he was promoted to the VP of Marketing for the East China Region of the Coca Cola China. In 1997, he was appointed as GM and VP for the Coca Cola Shanghai Shenmei Bottling Company, which is the largest Coca Cola bottling plant in China. After that, he was the CEO for Youxin Company in Guangzhou, China and the COO for MPI, an outdoor media company in China and the GM for the Thomas Group, which is a US consulting company based in Dallas. Also was selected as Board Directors for Shanghai Paradise Electronics Company and HengAn International Company, which both are listed at Hong Kong Stock Exchange. He was also an investment advisor for the Morgan Stanley Asia. During his time in Shanghai, he was awarded for the Magnolia Award by the Shanghai Municipal Government, which is the highest honor for the foreigner. He also served as the Board of Shanghai American Chamber of Commerce. He started his training career since 2006. He has conducted more than 400 training sessions for over 200 Chinese and American companies in China and US. The training courses he has been taught mainly in the areas of leadership and management, coaching, execution, communication skill and presentation skill, performance appraisal, culture integration, marketing and operational Strategy. Because he has in-depth of hands-on management experiences in both consumer and industrial products, his training has been well received by Chinese and multinational professionals.

Dr. Mingxi Fan

VP of Engineering at Qualcomm Corporate R&D

Dr. Mingxi Fan is currently Vice President of Engineering in Qualcomm Research System Department.   He joined the division in 2002 as a system engineer on cdma 2000 EV-DO project. He has worked on key initiatives on C2K, UMTS, and LTE driving technology innovation and product enhancements, going through the entire invention and development cycle including system architecture and algorithm design, prototype implementation, standardization, technology positioning and evangelization, as well as commercial product development and verification. He also helped company to found Qualcomm Research China operation established 2008 in Beijing. He is presently leading the R&D initiative for taking LTE to unlicensed bands. Mingxi holds over 20 U.S. patents and has received top contributor awards in Qualcomm Research in 2004 and 2011. Mingxi received his Bachelor, Master and Ph.D degrees in Electrical Engineering in 1999 and 2002, respectively, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA, where he also received the Ernst A. Guillemin EE Master’s thesis award from MIT in June, 1999.

Dr. John Gu

Founder of Renascions Corporation

Dr. John Gu is an experienced executive and entrepreneur in biotech and pharmaceutical industry. He was a leading genomics scientist at Motorola Life Sciences (MLS), later merged with Amersham, and also became GE Healthcare. In MLS, he led a successful launch of CodeLink P450 SNP Bioarray, it is one of the most widely used gene chips in the world today. Most recently, he found a personalized medicine company, Renascions Corporation, to develop cutting edge technology for rescuing hundreds of failing drugs.   His contribution to medical community, including Iressa for Non-Small CellLung Cancer, Xarelto for the newer generation of blood thinner and atrial fibrillation (replacement of Warfarin), is highly recognized by industry. He is currently serving as the President and Chief Scientific Officer at Renascions, and Adjunct Distinguish Professor at City of Hope, an NCI designated cancer hospital and Beckmann Institute. His working experience includes, NIH (National Institutes of Health) Fellow in the Human Genome Program at Washington University School of Medicine, Section Head at Motorola Life Sciences, Faculty and Program Director at Sydney Kimmel Cancer Center, Chief Business Officer at Vita Genomics, President at Shanghai GeneCore Biotechnologies, CEO of Genetrol and CytoPharm Therapeutics.

Mr. Hui Yan

Co-Founder and CEO at AirHop Communications 

Mr. Yan is a pioneer in real-time self-organizing network (SON) solutions for dynamic resource optimization and QoS/QoE management of heterogeneous networks.  He has over 20 year of wireless communications technology experience with roles spanning technology research, product development, corporate strategy and operations, product marketing and business development. Prior to AirHop, Yan established and managed the 3G advanced R&D organization for Texas Instruments (TI), successfully developing core technology IP for 3G wireless systems. He also served as Chair for the TI wireless patent committee and drove the company’s wireless standardization activities. Yan has also held various management and engineering positions at Nortel Networks and Dot Wireless. He currently serves on the advisory board for the Chair of ECE Department at University of Wisconsin, Madison.  Yan is an accomplished technologist with more than 30 patents granted or pending and a number of IEEE publications. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Tianjin University, China and a Master’s degree in EE from UW – Madison.

Dr. Tom Yang

Senior Director at Huawei Device USA

Dr. Yang collaborated with Google and successfully led the initiative to optimize power and performance on Google Nexus 6P. He led the efforts to use third party power amplifiers with Qualcomm ET/DPD solutions, a first in the smartphone industry. He also developed power features that are more power efficient than those from Apple and Google. In 2014, he worked with Arm, Qualcomm, TI, and UCSD and served as Chairman of the First Huawei Power Summit at La Jolla Marriot. Prior to Huawei Device USA, he founded and led Qualcomm’s Android power team, which grew from two to more than 30 engineers. He optimized power for the first Android smartphone. In his career at Qualcomm, he optimized power for more than 10 chipsets, spanning from MSM7201A to MSM8974. He worked with Samsung, LG, HTC, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Xiaomi and optimized power on hundreds of OEM smartphones. He has many patents, journal publications along with book chapters, and has provided presentation for company executives in key public events.

Dr. Jing Shi

Founder and CEO of Learning Genie Inc.

Dr. Shi is the President of CAST-SD and a TEEC associate member. Learning Genie is a fast growing education technology company for Early Childhood Education. Prior founding Learning Genie. Dr. Shi worked for Oracle, and Micron respectively. Published 30+ journal and conference papers and 9 US patents awarded. 1 Patent in PCT.

Mr. Yutong Gao

Co-Founder of Easy Transfer

Mr. Gao helped Easy Transfer reached five countries within four months including United States, Spain, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada. Mr. Gao also helped Easy Transfer became the largest online payment platform used by Chinese students and schools, with his marketing team of over 300 members globally. In just 8 months, Mr. Gao helped Easy Transfer gained investment from Xu Xiaoping, Wang Qiang, and Xue Manzi. Media presses in China, describing Mr. Gao as the craziest after 90s entrepreneur in China.

Mr. Xiumeng Kuang

CEO of  Torrey Hills Technologies

Author of START-UP STAR 

Kuang is a successful business owner, Amazon Best Seller and award winning engineer. Born, raised and educated in China, Kuang followed his entrepreneurial dream to the US in 1994 and started his own company in 2004. Dr. Andrew Wang

Founder of Ocean Nanotech

Dr. Wang is a material chemist with more than 20 years experience in synthesis and surface modification of the nanoparticles in both academic research and industrial R&D development settings. As the Principal Scientist and founder of Ocean NanoTech, he has developed and commercialized a series of stable and uniform inorganic nanoparticles (iron oxide, quantum dots, gold and silver nanocrystals) for biomedical applications. Many of his research development projects were in collaborations with the investigators from Emory University, Stanford University, Washington University, MD Anderson Cancer Center, etc.

Mr. Howard Wang

Founder of Chinese Career Center

学 生创业家,CCC职业平台创始人, 本科就读于北京理工大学光电工程系,之后获得南加州大学电子工程与工程管理硕士学位。曾任2010-2012年南加州大学中国学生学者联谊会主席,第十届 美西南中国学生学者联谊会主席,现任北理工洛杉矶校友会副会长,美西南学联理事会成员。
